«Building Back Better Communities»

To promote the best solutions to rehouse people displaced by the earthquake of January 2010, the Haitian government organised a contest allowing national and international companies to present prototypes of houses that are resistant to weathering. Over 100 prototypes are being built on the site of “Zoranje.”

The President Michel Martelly, the former Prime Minister Jean Max Belleriveand the formerPresident Bill Clinton, visited the contest site as part of the Haiti’s Housing week. The opportunity for the Head of State to stress that it was time to “reshape our communities, to appropriate our neighborhoods, and to provide spaces that respect the human dignity and the environment.” For his part, former President Clinton, said he hopes that “all the technology deployed on this project will ever be available to all Haitians. That they no longer have to pay more for electricity, and that drinking water is no longer a rare commodity…”
