US Embassy Visit to Ecole Shalom

Yesterday (October 26th ) we had the visit of a group of people from the
US Embassy. The children welcomed them by singing a Bienvenu song. They brought some gifts with them, including books in Creole for the children as well as materials for the adult literacy class.

Our guests observed a literacy class, a microfinance session and then a laptop class.

Nick explains the Geoquiz Haiti activity to one visitor, while Junior helps another with the class.

Nick, who has previously done work with the 2nd graders, presented a math and offline map class. The kids were quite focused on their activity! Later Nick had a good conversation with one of the visitors about this project at the school, emphasizing that basic literacy is their main objective, that personalized education is possible using their school’s server, and that their apps are made locally and by university projects. Nick and the other volunteers are always proud to show off the children’s prowess with the XO laptop lessons and activities.

Merci beaucoup pour les livres!
