Volunteers have been working hard for the past two months on setting up a true “One Laptop per Child” School in Croix-des-Bouquets. Each time a volunteer arrives, he attempts to bring laptops in his luggage for the new program. Sometimes it is difficult to convince customs officials to allow them into the country, other times it is not a problem at all. So far, they have managed to supply about 50 laptops. Sometimes there is breakage, but often repairs can be made by the volunteers themselves.
There are 6 teachers and over 60 children who show up regularly for classes. They are getting very close to their goal of “one laptop per child and teacher“. Today, a trainee was successful in refurbishing 11 used laptops for the children. This brings the total number to about 50.
